Why an interactive quiz may be absent from Chrome Reading mode

Chrome Reading mode can show the explanatory text of a page while leaving out an interactive quiz. This does not, by itself, mean that the quiz was deleted or that the original page is broken. Reading mode and the original interactive page are different views.

What changes in Reading mode

On a computer, Reading mode may not support interactive elements such as forms and quizzes. It can therefore present the heading and paragraphs above a quiz but omit the questions, answer choices, or submit control. Text preferences in Reading mode can change how the reading view looks, but they do not turn that view into the full interactive page. Chrome’s guidance is available in Google’s Chrome Reading mode help.

A fictional example

Hypothetical example: Meera opens a fictional history lesson in Chrome. In the original page, the lesson ends with three multiple-choice questions. She opens Reading mode and sees the lesson’s explanation, but the quiz section is absent. After returning to the original page, she can see the three questions and their answer controls again. The observable change is between two views of the same lesson: the simplified reading view and the original interactive view.

What to do next

Use Reading mode when your immediate aim is to read the article’s main text. When you reach an activity, close or leave Reading mode and inspect the original page. In the fictional lesson, Meera only inspects the restored controls; she does not submit an answer or change a saved result. If the quiz is also missing from the original page, that is a separate issue requiring inspection of that page, rather than evidence that Reading mode removed it.

This explanation applies specifically to Chrome Reading mode on a computer and to interactive content such as quizzes or forms. It does not establish that every interactive element will always disappear, nor does it confirm anything about a particular website’s design.
